Update: Fires were arson
Seattle Fire investigators say the fires this morning in the Greenwood area were arson. The first fire was at 300 NW 85th, at 3:43a.m., was on back porch of a business. Neighbors helped fight it. The fire did not extend to the business, a guitar shop. The damage is estimated at $5,000. The second fire, at N 84th and Greenwood Ave N. at 4:11 a.m., was outside the structures in a 3-foot gap between two buildings, but did not go into the interior. Damage is estimated at $20,000. Investigators believe both fires were started by the same person
Two more fires burned businesses early Thursday morning.
Officials are already investigating six recent arsons.
Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen said a fire at 3:43 a.m. burned the back porch of an accounting office. A fire a 4:11 a.m. burned the exterior of the Rosewood Guitar business.
The owner of Rosewood Guitar said none of his merchandise was damaged.
Vander Houwen says investigators will be looking for the causes of the fires and whether they are related to an unsolved arson on Oct. 23 in the same neighborhood. That fire destroyed four restaurants and caused $2 million damage.
There were no injuries in any of the fires.
